Why Big Is The New Small?

gorilla.JPGI was inspired to begin reading blogs after Sam Roberts from the LifeChurch.tv Directional Leadership Team encouraged campus leaders to begin reading blogs and hook up an RSS Reader.  My question at the time was “What’s an RSS Reader and What’s a Blog?”  Nevertheless, I found myself knee deep in the blogsphere scouring through tons of great blogs, as well as some pretty bad ones.  A little over three months ago, I decided that I was going to officially enter into the blogsphere and create my own blog.  When I was deciding to come up with a name for my blog, I wanted something that was easy to remember, catchy and not simply Scott’s Blog Hmmmmmmm.  I immediately flocked to Big Is The New Small; which was inspired from Seth Godin’s Small is The New Big.  Let me give you some perspective of what Big Is The New Small is all about:

  •  The Bigger and more successful an organization or ministry becomes the Smaller and more laser focused they must become.

  • The Bigger a persons belly becomes, in order to loose weight their portions must become Smaller.

  • The Bigger the lottery amount, the Smaller the chances of winning.

  • The Bigger a leader becomes the Smaller the number of individuals they can directly disciple (Think about it, Jesus only had 12).

  •  The Bigger the gorilla, the Smaller the stroller.

For those of you who are considering starting a blog, I definitely encourage you to do so.  Blogging provides you the opportunity to rant, inspire, encourage, laugh, teach, lead, share and learn on a daily basis; more importantly it challenges you to “Think.”  Oh and did I mention that it’s Free!

Who inspired you to and when did you start reading blogs?  How did you come up with your blog name?  Share some cool blog names and good blogs that you have ran across!

How: My good friend Kevin turned me onto the blogging world. He would always talk about the great things he was reading and even writing and I was hooked. I’ve now been able to start and maintain some good relationships through the blog world.

    What: CrossroadsMovement.com

Why: One of things that I noticed about a lot of young adults, from being one and being in ministry with, is that we make several major life decisions (college, career, relationships) and therefore often find ourselves at crossroads. The problem with being at a crossroads is that many of us are frozen at the crossroads and never move. So I decided to start a blog about moving through the crossroads of life.

I’ve been a guy that journaled most of my Christian life – it’s still hard to find me without a couple different sized Moleskines tucked away in my book bag.

So, when I first read about this new online journal (back in 2002), I jumped on it and started on the free service XANGA… here I am 5 years later still bloggin’

My blog name: The Insomnia Chronicles – simple, I’m nocturnal or atleast close. My prayer time begins at 3am and I often feel most inspired or in-tune after all the business of the day is over and the quiet blanket of night has been pulled up.

With over 100,000 page visits – I’m totally amazed that so many want to read the late night ramblings of a man after God’s own heart… pretty humbling – yet, cool!

Started blogging 2 years ago after coming across a guy named Chris Jarrell (Facedown Worshipper) blog online.

Turned out – because I want to turn the world out for Christ!!

My friend John Otjen (www.blog.johnotjen.com) pushed me into the blog world. He sent me a text that said “happy birthdy aaronhavens.com” So he set up the site and taught me how to post. Thats about all i know, it’s not the coolest looking site…but I love having it as a creative outlet. Scott, love reading your thoughts!

I started blogging for informational purposes a year ago. I love having a place to just put down my revelation and my thoughts. Before (and still for the most part) mine were all stored in word documents. It’s a chore going through it all to see what I have. I love your blog – it’s creative and fun! Who did your site? You?
