Safe Toilet Syndrome
I know that this post sounds very random; well it is. I think that it is definitely worth reading and it answers the question that many of us have asked ourselves. BTW- This random thought was inspired while watching Oprah with my wife last night. That is definitely not part of my daily regimen; it was one of those random moments.
Oprah had “Dr. Oz” on her show to answer a number of random questions. The question that caught my attention was: “Is vacation constipation normal? Does it hurt my body to hold in poop for so long?” Dr. Oz’s response was that vacation, or traveling constipation was quite normal and is called “Safe Toilet Syndrome.” I wonder how they came up w/ that name “Hmmmm Bob what do you think, I don’t know, well let’s call it STS or Safe Toilet Syndrome.” LOL! According to Dr. Oz and other research, here are the reasons for constipation when you are away from home:
- A Change in diet, not enough fiber
- Not drinking enough water
- Long periods of sitting down
- Change in circadian rhythms
- Autonomic nervous system goes into safe mode, because of unfamiliar or “unsafe” environment
I always wondered what the deal was when I traveled or went on vacation. I thought this might be helpful information with all the traveling for the Holiday Season. “Happy Holidays!”
Have you ever suffered from “Safe Toilet Syndrome?” That’s an awkward question, let’s try another one! Was this post helpful or insightful?
Many of us have “Safe God Syndrome,” we love to play it safe!
