Women Should Be in the Kitchen!

women-cooking.jpgFirst of all I can’t reiterate enough; the importance of blog titles.  Now that you are with me, I want to clarify that my wife works…. and I don’t agree with the title in it’s literal form; however women should be in the kitchen at least sometimes. (smile)  The title is simply a figure of speech to guide us through two relevant questions.  Everyone has an opinion on these questions so jump right in and share your thoughts.

Do you feel comfortable with a woman as the U.S. President?  Why, why not, discuss!

Should women be Senior Pastors or Lead Youth Pastors?  Why, why not, discuss!

I’ve only been a Christian for four years and let me tell you that before I gave my heart to Him, I was a feminist. I’m so glad He showed me that I could be strong and contribute as a woman no matter what I did. Look at the life of Paul and how many women supported his ministry. By nature, God has gifted me as a leader. I have learned Godly submission to whatever gender is in authority over me. If you’ve ever tasted my cooking, you wouldn’t want me in your kitchen – it’s not my area of expertise.

Female president? Why not. Is God not the ultimate authority? He places many above us. He doesn’t look at their gender but their hearts. Look at Deborah. Would He like to see Hilary Clinton in office? I’m not sure, but if He wants her there, nothing will keep her out. :)

I’m all about a woman in ministry. In fact, I’m all about a woman leading in ministry roles and leading businesses and even a country, for that matter. I am not for Hillary…just to be clear :)

A woman being a senior pastor or lead pastor to where she is a shepherd over men? Hmmmm….maybe it’s due to my Baptist upbringings but I don’t know.

    Just bein’ honest.

Ooh, good questions!!! For background, I have a history of being in leadership roles such as President of Business Student Council in college and loving those responsbilities and opportunities of impact; these roles were not ‘heads’ of anything life-changing, however. I do not believe a woman should be the head of our country or of a church. Call me traditional, but we women were created to support men. A rib was taken from Adam to make Eve, not the other way around. I do find great benefit in ‘tag teams’ of a man and woman co-leading different ministries or organizations. I, myself, would love to be an associate pastor. God made guys and gals different for a divine purpose, with different skills, thought processes, and abilities. For me, being the main leader in a church or of the country would almost force me to deny the way God made me – to be emotional, care-giving, supportive, put people first, etc.

We could use a woman president, but I would vote for a woman only if she held to a strong value system. The current female option fails in that respect.

As for a pastor, call me old-fashioned or fundamentalist, but I’m for a female pastor. There’s authority given to pastors that women shouldn’t have over men for the same reason the man should be a spiritual leader in the home.

I wouldn’t have a theological issue with either. I would have a personal preference with both.

Yes and Yes! If the woman was the most competent candidate and espoused my values, absolutely for President. If she was called and anointed to be Pastor, why on earth not?

no problem with a woman president (depending on the woman, of course)

I also am in favor of female youth pastors (I was actually thinking about this the other day). I’m also down with female teaching pastors (Heather Zempel at NCC comes to mind). Senior pastor – not so much. I have no justification for this. I’ve tried to, but I can’t come up with a real good argument for it. It’s just how I feel.

P.S. – Women should be in the kitchen! But that doesn’t mean they should stay there!

(I’m all about cooking as a family activity)

Can o worms huh. At a previous church I wasn’t allowed to lead worship or teach men because I was a woman. ummm, that hurt. I’m OK with NOT discipling men, but I thinking a teaching situation is different. One on one with a man as some sort of pastor just doesn’t set right. I agree with Cindy. Again, I think teaching is different that being a mentor. SO, all that to say, get those gals in the church! As to a woman Pres…still, I like men to lead. But, there is Deborah in the Old Testament…hmmm

Scott ~ As campus pastor, can you share what Lifechurch’s position is on these questions? What does it say in the Bible?

  • http://boffthewall.wordpress.com Brooke

Yes and yes…i think a woman is very capable of running our country, however my voting tends to be more about the person than whether or not it’s male or female. I like Hillary as a person, but she doesn’t share the same value system as i do. And i think it’s very ok for a woman to be a pastor or senior pastor. To me it’s more about what they know and their gift, more than if it’s man or woman. If i woman is a good teacher, then she should use that gift…ex. Beth Moore (i know she’s not a pastor, but she very well could be!)

It’s like football, God is the head coach. Man is the quarterback, and women are the wide-receivers. The coach(God) signals the play to the Quarterback(Man) then he calls the play, and the rest of the players try to execute the play. The quarterback(man) doesn’t call himself the leader, the Head coach(God) does. He is the leader of the team not because he the fastest or the best player on the team. He is just the one that Head coach(God) said will call the plays and be the leader. So my point is, know your role!!!!!

Woman president, sure I guess… but not Hillary. I’m all about Women leading in the church, leading over men is another issue. Maybe both of my answers are my response as a Baptist Minister’s Daughter. hhmmm…

I think America is ready for a woman to be president, but there are many other countries who are not ready for a woman to be President of the US.
As far as youth ministry goes, I love the idea. I know a couple of females who are in that position.

  • http://jennifercady.blogspot.com/ Jenn Cady

Woman president…Not Hilary, so what would Bill be the “first man”…odd.

Woman Pastor…this is not up my alley…Honestly, I have never served under one…If God has given someone a calling…who am I to disagree. I can’t stop what God chooses to do…So I will leave that one for God to figure out. I don’t have the answer.

Great comments thoughts and questions… Thanks for your honesty, this is some good stuff.

Steve- The Church doesn’t have an opinion or endorse any candidates, that’s not our role. I can speak to the female Pastor by simply saying “Anna Meadows!”

  • http://rindy.wordpress.com Rindy

If anyone has been given the gift of leadership, then they should be simply a leader, not a “woman leader” or a “man leader”. God can anoint anyone with any gifts and who are we to question that! If they have their own agenda to be the “first woman” just to prove something, then that is a whole different story!

I want to start by saying that I am not one of those girl power girls at all. But I do think that if there was a woman who had similar views as me then I would be all for her being President. Now for a pastor that can be totally confusing. See I feel that it is 100% ok for a woman to be an associate pastor, but then I don’t know how I feel about the lead pastor. But then if you think about it, aren’t associate pastors kinda in training to be lead pastors. So I can’t really say then that I don’t think it is ok for woman to be lead pastors. So I guess that it is ok then, but when it all comes down to it God is going to make a way for a woman to be a pastor if he wants them in that position.
