The Grass Is Always Greener…

“THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE!”

Never satisfied, envy, jealousy…..

Why? Thoughts, Discuss!

If the grass is always greener, you can bet their water bill is higher. I’m just sayin’.

I think as human beings, we tend to focus way to much on our weaknesses and other people’s strengths. I’ve been taking a lifegroup through the Marcus Buckingham series, Trombone Player Wanted, and it really helped us to learn where our focusses should be. Even though this is a secular teaching, putting it in the context of Kingdom work – it’s amazing. I am constantly reminding myself that while the grass may appear, or may even be greener on the other side – even that grass needs to be mowed every week! I’d rather mow my own and know where the hiccups are along the way than to try and mow someone elses and break down the equipment. :)

For me, it has to do with insecurity. If we are secure in who we are, what we have, we won’t have the need to go looking for it on the other side of the fence…

I’m praying for you this week, and all the way up until you speak. I can’t wait to see what God does through you! See you in about an hour!

It is not necessarily that the grass has to be GREENER on the other side of the fece, but rather that the grass on the other side of the fence is just ALREADY GREEN! In our drive-thru-window-no-payments-no-interest-for-6-months-DSL-connection society, we want it and we want it RIGHT NOW. And it is much easier to just want to hop the fence where the grass looks so beautiful than it is to just cultivate our own beautiful grass! Few people want to spend the time to cultivate their grass. In fact, that person whose green grass you are admiring probably had to hop a few fences of their own!

I enjoy working and creating my own so I will continue to work on my own lawn; however, I will call in some assistance every so often.

Sometimes the grass really is greener. The key is to learn to not envy the grass, but learn how they fertilized.

This worked out great for David when he saw a woman bathing naked on a roof, oh wait. I spoke about that two weeks ago during my God is…..Pro-Choice series. God gives YOU the power to choose.

Hey Scott, been a silent reader so far. Really loved your prison series.

As far as why the grass is greener on the other side of the fence in Oklahoma, it’s simple really. The wind blows so hard all the water you’re trying to put on your lawn ends up in the neighbor’s.

    No,

But it could be greener because their septic tank is leaking.

This seems to relate to something I read at mattdabbs this week…
    .
    Jumbled up a bit:
    —————
It was a perfect existence between God and mankind.
They should have been satisfied—all their basic needs were met.
    .
The world says if you want clothes you chase clothes. If you want food you chase food. If you want stuff you better chase it yourself because no one else is going to do it for you. And don’t chase just anything. Only the best is worth your attention. Following that line of thinking to the end makes stuff our “lord” instead of God.
    .
What are the necessary steps it will take for you to find contentment in God alone?
    —————–
remember: HDTV is not a basic need.

    The two opposing views…
    .

(Singing)I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket. It’s my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now!!!

    – Veruca Salt, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
    .

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

    – 1Timothy 6:5-7
    .
I think the difference is the way we view life, success, wealth, and what we are grateful for…
    .
When I start to struggle with what I don’t have, Christ reminds me of what He has given me, and how temporary life is in comparison with eternity with Him…
    .
Then the nonsense darkness starts to fade…and the morning light begins to shine, and a new song rises in my heart…

For a recent study in Daniel, I also tripped across this:
    .
Second Choice: Embracing Life As It Is by Viv Thomas. The author examines how the prophet Daniel learned not only to survive but also thrive in a place that was not his choosing, what Thomas calls “a second-choice world.

Nobody wants to listen to anyone talk about “second choice,” “embracing life as it is”, this amounts to giving up and settling for less than what we want.
    .
Maybe the grass is greener over there, but all the wheat needs to be harvested, go where God needs you, based on His leading, not the thirst for more. Wheat is better brown anyway.
    .
(I say this, but have not figured out implementation for myself yet… Patience. Faith. Trust. “God has made foolish the wisdom of the world”: so I need to figure out the trick of figuring out what wisdom in my head is from God, and what has creeped in from the world.)

for us, it’s simple, because we don’t have any grass on our side of the fence. it’s all concrete, asphalt, brick and dirt. Ha! and, we wouldn’t have it any other way – life in the inner-city is awesome!
    - wherever you are, be all there!
    - cause what may look better (facility, compensation, opportunity, etc) often isn’t HIS best for you.
    - IF it’s not God’s dream, it will become your nightmare.

I wonder…if certain celebrities came up with a way to grow their grass purple then people would be wanting that too.

I’ve moved to the greener grass multiple times in my life…only to find them not so green. I’ve found it best to just grow where God plants you!

I suspect it’s because we often live under the misguided notion that the guy next door has a better life than we do. It appears that human nature is so discontent with our apportioned lot, we always think that someone else has it so much better than us and if only we could be him…

Selfishness that is ingrained in us from the day we are born is what makes us think the grass is greener.
