Monday Morning Ramblings

Personal Ramblings

  • Yesterday was a long day, church, track meet, birthday party and back to the track meet.  The Track Meet was the largest the YMCA has had, w/ over 400 kids.

  • My son Wesley (8) got 1stplace in the 50 yard dash; he’s 8 running w/ 9 & 10 year olds.

  • Jayden (4) scored so many goals at his Soccer Game Saturday we quit counting.  Jayden’s B-Day is today, he’s 5.

  • If it sounds like I’m bragging on my little Warriors I am; Check out our current LC Series The Warrior.

Blog Ramblings

  • I ran across this blog called Stuff White People Like and it has only been up and running since January and has received almost 22 million hits and posts receive like 900 comments.  Some of it is pretty funny!

  • Blogs have their own personalities!

Church Ramblings

  • If there are more people in the church who are “Consumers” as opposed to “Contributors”, who’s fault is it; the Church Leaders, the “Consumers” or both?

  • Do you remember anything from this past Sunday’s Sermon, if so share a key thought; If not don’t share what church you attend. LOL

Random Ramblings

  • According to Jimmy Paravane, he now has some competition in the blogsphere; an individual who is new to BigIsTheNewSmall, they go by the name of What about.  You should check out the comments on this post…. It was good stuff.

  • What does … really mean and is it supposed to be 3 dots or 4?

  • If you have any Monday Morning Ramblings, go ahead and sound off!
  • James

Sounds like your warriors are great athletes! Congrats!

Comment from the service – Craig “Son you make button popping proud” great visual of a father’s chest swelling with pride.

Contributing – All of us should work to contribute more. We must create margin(time) to serve the church. A special thanks to Jim and this weekends Micromission another great event.

    1. I love track! I’m hoping to get out to some of Guthrie’s high school track meets this year. Seeing that we won football and basketball state championships, we should be decent at track.
    2. BRAG ON YOUR CHILDREN…(three dots)I do.
    3. Stuff White People Like is pretty funny. I wonder who thought of it.
    4. I’m going with both but I’m looking more at the Consumer. When it comes down to it, my leader want to held accountable for what I do or don’t do.
    5. Didn’t go to church Sunday. I was on the road but I spent time reading about faith (Hebrews).

    No ramblings on this Monday.

You must be a proud dad :) Can’t wait to get the boy to playing some sports.

And to answer your question, the … is called an ellipsis.

  • http://www.annameadows.com Anna Meadows

… means a remaining thought. It’s like, “I want to say more, but I can’t think of the words… Oh, and it’s three dots. Unless you’re ending a sentence with it and then it’s four. Of course, I guess you really wouldn’t end a sentence with it if it was a remaining thought. Aren’t sentences COMPLETE thoughts? MMM… interesting…

It’s three dots. And it’s meant to leave you hanging just a bit.

Scott, for me (and possibly others), this weekly feature should be called “Monday Afternoon Ramblings” – it’s not easy recovering from my weekend “ministry hangover” until, at least, Noon… any organic remedies out there for overcoming quicker? (an intravenous drip of Starbuck’s coffee certainly helps) – ha!

    I’m a big fan of hte elipsis…kinda a fav.

  • Mike

I enjoyed reading What about’s postings (even if love seemed to be lacking). It was a good wake-up call for all of us to get serious about reading our Bibles, and correctly understanding and applying it to our lives in today’s world.

As someone who has been long-absent from the contemporary megachurch scene, I fear that this is truly lacking in the name of “not causing too big of a stir”, or just flat-out carelessness. It seems too many churches are trying to be culturally sensitive instead of biblically sensitive.

We all need to take our doctrine seriously; not as an end, but as a means of experiencing the power and grace of the one true God and not some graven idol.

i got teary-eyed when craig read the card from his dad. even though this sermon was dealing w/ father/son relationships, i can definitely relate to the fact that my dad’s words always have had, and still have, a deeper impact/affect on me than other people’s words. good thing i have an amazing father, even if he is a bit insensitive {in the typical “male” sort of way} at times! :)

ps i am an official over-user of the “…”. i do know the correct way to use it, i just choose to use it more than is necessary. maybe it’s cuz i alwayz feel like i have more to say! ;)

The key thought for me from Craig’s message this weekend was to not only compliment my children’s accomplishments, but their characteristics as well.

I threw shotput and discuss. And, I never touched a javelin but I took 2nd place in the South Carolina Junior Olympics in the javelin event…

Then at certain meets there was this thing called the “Fat Man Relay” in which the shot putters and discuss guys would have a 400m relay race. Once it all gets moving it is hard to stop!!

Oh, and I only agree with about 40% of the “what white people like” list so thats less than a statistical average. Not very representative– or am I not very representative (again)…

    5and2fish is spot on!

the stuff white people like…wow! i didn’t read much but i’m sure lettuce is in there because fred sanford said white people’s houses smell like lettuce.

or as was my favorite episode of “ed”…i will give you $10 to go in there and ask where the lettuce is but you have to pronounce it “let-oose”.

  • http://paravane.wordpress.com/ jimmy paravane

Hey! He’s not serious competition until he has a blog as good as mine! And that’s not hard to do! uh…wait…that’s not what I meant to say. Oh, and the reason it’s 3 dots instead of 4 is because that’s what my grammar checker doesn’t choke on.(grin) When I do 3 dots, it mainly means you can draw yer own conclusions at that point…because I’m rethinking mine…or you can just believe what Anna said, or Cindy Beall, or princessjess, who I personally think cheated and used google, or her intelligence, or something like that…somebody’s mom is a grammar expert, I forget who, I just know I live in terror of her ever reading my blog…(grin)
I have a new game I play on yer blog, Scott. I comment, then I immediately check it to see if I got the white background with black text, or the cool red background with white text! Then again, I’m easily amused….
I’m gonna go play with my new word; ellipsis…(grin)

Wow. Scott, it sounds like God is doing some huge things through you. Just found the blog and am excited to keep reading.

I’ve been reading Stuff White People like for about a month now. Some of their posts make me laugh out loud. I do enjoy a good expensive sandwich every now and then.
