You're Not A Leader If…

leadership.jpg You’re Not A Leader If:

  • you are not willing to fail.
  • you only talk and never listen.
  • you can’t get people to follow you.
  • you are not willing to follow those you lead.
  • you don’t develop and produce other leaders.
  • you micro-manage; that’s management not leadership.
  • you are insecure or threatened by someone that you lead.
  • you are more focused on what people think about the results, than the results themselves.
  • you are willing to make the wrong decision, do to the fear of  fall-out from making the right decision.
  • you only dream about being like so and so, instead of dreaming about so and so dreaming about being like you.  Go Lead…Transcend The Isms

Oh, I forgot to ask… How was your weekend?

  • Excellent post. You are talking about the exact thing I am right now. Your list is more of a quick ref but I’d love to see more detail on each item.

Might stop over and read the posts that I’ve been doing on Leadership. They are actually the notes from a presentation I gave recently.

  • poor Noah….

  • I’m not one for namin’ names, but people over at the N-Dub tell me what a GREAT leader you are and have used some of the above to describe you. People are talkin’ Williams. People are talkin’.

Oh, and my weekend was good. I even rooted for OU. Before you know it, I’ll have one of those obnoxious OU decals on my window or tag.

  • Ditto, Dusty! 😉

When I came to the “micro-manage” line I said a hearty “AMEN”!

You’re not a leader if you’re more focused on results than relationships.

Good ones, Scott. Keep it up!

  • I agree with Robin…from personal experience, AMEN to the “no micro-managing” statement! Leaders who do that may not realize it, but they are sending a message to their team member(s) that says, “I don’t trust you to do your job right.”

  • From now on I am just going to redirect my domain name to your blog. Good stuff. another one worth pointing people to!!!

  • You’re not a leader: just because you have a ‘title’ … you must have COURAGE. (adapted from Braveheart)

  • I am going to write those down and look at them everyday as a reminder. Good stuff.

  • Scott Williams

Thanks for the comments ladies and gentlemen… busy day/long night! 🙂

  • Oh these are good. Hubby would especially love the micro manage one. I personally have learned from this one: you don’t develop and produce other leaders.

It took a minute , but I got it (lol).

  • WOW! The minute I read your post I thought this is what students and learners and teachers need to know.

You’re Not A Learner or Teacher If:

    * you are not willing to fail.
    * you only talk and never listen.
    * you can’t get people to (Teach) you (or Learn from you).
    * you are not willing to (Learn from) those you Teach.
    * you don’t develop and produce other (learners).
    * you micro-manage; that’s management not (teaching).
    * you are insecure or threatened by someone that you (teach).
    * you are more focused on what people think about the results, than the results themselves.
    * you are willing to make the wrong decision, do to the fear of fall-out from making the right decision.
    * you only dream about being like so and so, instead of dreaming about so and so dreaming about being like you. Go (Learn) (Teach)…Transcend The Isms
