God, Kurt Warner & The SuperBowl

It’s SuperBowl Sunday and I want to make it clear that I’m going with the underdog Arizona Cardinals; I mean who’s going to stop Larry Fitzgerald.   The polls on BigIsTheNewSmall.com have accurately predicted the Presidential Election and the BCS Championship; right now the polls have the Cardinals ahead (Go Vote at Bottom Right).

The Cards are led by the poster-child of professional athletes that truly put God first and outwardly share their faith in Jesus.  Kurt Warner has come a long way from his early release from the GreenBay Packers Training Camp in 1994, to his Arena Football League days, to winning a SuperBowl with the Rams… and topping it all off tonight by being the oldest quarterback to ever play in a SuperBowl.

No matter the outcome of tonights game; I think Warner says it best in this quote: “Whether I’m a Super Bowl Champion or a regular guy stocking groceries at the Hy-Vee, sharing my faith and glorifying Jesus is the central focus of my time on this earth.”

Check out this video below of Warner drawing what God Looks Life:

No doubt about it, my vote goes to the Cardinals. I got to watch just a little bit of the Super Bowl, as our service begins at 6:00 PM here at Liberty Lighthouse. We had an awesome time praising the Lord and hearing the Word.

I think Kurt Warner is a class act, and the video you posted is pretty amazing. He hit the nail on the head about making good use of his time here on earth – Christ’s people should spend their days witnessing about God’s amazing grace.

Why would God look like a human when he isn’t one? We have Michelangelo to thank for that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Chapel_ceiling

Also, Jesus was a Jew, which we all know. He was born in Bethlehem and traveled all through what is modern day Israel, Gaza Strip, and the West Bank. So we should look to the likeness of the Mediterranean Jews for an image of what Jesus most likely looked like.

The image of God is mentioned in Genesis 1:26-27, “And God created man in His own image.” So what was this image? Well it can’t *only* be in the image of a European man as Michelangelo and Kurt Warner would have us believe. Why? Because the story of Genesis was written by Moses, an ancient Mediterranean man, as told to him by God. So was God describing that he made man in the image of Europeans, and NOT in the image of men like Moses whom he was talking to? That would be odd.

Furthermore, Moses was born in Egypt. So if God created man in His own image, yet the man he was talking to was Egyptian, what does God look like? In my opinion, it is safe to say that God does not look like what Michaelangelo painted or what kurt Warner drew.

On the contrary, I maintain that God was hinting at something completely different then facial features, skin tone, and grade of hair. Rather, he was talking about more spiritual qualities- and specifically those qualities which make man special among the other animals on this planet. Man’s soul, sentience, free will, and ability to reason are what we were given by God. To me, the physical image of God is not knowable, and not important.

By the way, I am a practicing Christian and regularly attend my local Baptist church. So I am commenting here just to give people something to think about.

I have always respected Kurt Warner, and I wanted him to win last night. He’s a great guy and the world would be a better place if there were more Christians like him.
