How The Mighty Fall

Here is a quick thought video that I shot and originally I was outside, and that’s why I referenced it being windy.  Share your thoughts about why some mighty pastors, businesses, leaders, influencers, sports teams… fall and why some mighty leaders, influencers and Chick-fil-A’s of the world seem to stay on top.

  • I remember TG&Y! I’m old!

You make some excellent points here. I read a book some years ago called the Samson Syndrome. It’s a look at why great and powerful men fall and the temptations and attitudes that bring them down.

There is a powerful characteristic of humility in people who are really great. I’m sure that extends to the church also.

  • Amen! Todo se trata acercade ÉL, a veces en el camino hacia el éxito nos olvidamos de quien nos bendijo… TODO SE TRATA DE ÉL…

    Gracias por el recordatorio…

  • TG&Y! Wow! Good points sir. We most definitely have to keep in mind Matthew 6:33. Seeking God first will give you all you NEED and we must always remember that following God means denying self. Let’s encourage one another to stay focused on the first book. Quick note: barnes & noble rocks!

  • Good to see your face and hear from you! Miss you, Scott.

  • ViridisMaximus

Awesome post Scott! I’m going to check out that book but you’re words are a great reminder that we don’t need to look very far for the information we need. This was a much needed boost for me today!

  • Scott Williams

ViridisMaximus- Thanks, so far so good on the book!

  • Arguably the most striking story about the danger of pride is the fall of Satan from heaven. Jesus even referenced it when He warned His disciples against pride (Luke 10:17-20).

The reference in Isaiah 14 is chilling, to say the least:

“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
    You who weakened the nations!
For you have said in your heart:
    ‘I will ascend into heaven,
    I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
    On the farthest sides of the north;
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit…
…you are cast out of your grave
    Like an abominable branch,
Like the garment of those who are slain,
    Thrust through with a sword,
Who go down to the stones of the pit,
    Like a corpse trodden underfoot.

    –Isaiah 14:12-15,19; NKJV

  • Great thoughts man! Thanks for sharing that!

  • Scott Williams

@rick_smith- Thanks… we are double poppin’ this week for sure!
Aaron- Collins is a detailed author, great thinker.
Trevor- i did notice that… that’s crazy because it was just random off the cuff, I think that time is just ingrained in me. Blah, blah, blah… in Jesus Name Amen! 180 🙂

  • 2 words: Humility and Accountability. If you don’t have those, it’s only a matter of time before you are brought down.

  • I believe that a lot of great men lose sight of where there real treasure is and that the reason they achieved any kind of notoriety or greatness was because God gave it to them. Same thing with successful unbelievers. They still operate principles from God’s wonderful, matchless word and God honors it.
