I just watched an interview Martin Brashear did with MJ that originally aired in 2003 - I didn't realize that Neverland Ranch was inspired by the story of Peter Pan - Brashear told him "but you're not Peter Pan" and Michael responded "but I am... in my heart I'm Peter Pan." I was so struck by his love for fantasy which I don't believe is bad unless you obsess about it which in his case was obvious.

He was asked about sleeping with children in his bed and he was immediately defensive basically saying that Brashear and others always imply sleeping as sexual but it was never like that, it was reading stories, eating milk and cookies, and really doing what parents don't do with their kids anymore which is ruining our society. After tearing up some he said passionately "...this is what the whole world should be doing." I was fascinated by his genuine passion and conviction - I didn't get a vibe at all that he was creepy like I had admittedly wondered about from the news. His father was extremely abusive to him and his siblings and couple that with fame and you have an explosion thrusting you out of your childhood and into a phantasm, a fantasy world that had sadly but understandably continued to be his reality.

I guess the reason I'm writing is to confess my sin of judgement against him - I slowly gave in to the erosion of MJ and began to judge him more critically over the years, never really caring to know him more to know how to better pray for him and understand him. Even after he had died, I was so toxic with judgement that I didn't really feel the sadness or appreciate not only how truly perfect his dancing and entertaining has been but just how much he has contributed to the mind and action of our culture over the years... and anyone who has felt like me is where the real sadness lives and needs to die.

I read an interesting article & perspective in the Detroit Free Press today by Mitch Albom (author of "Tuesdays with Morrie", "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", etc...).

Obviously, here in Motown there is quite a bit of focus about MJ's death. This is where it all began for him (and the Jackson 5). His life is a tragic story w/ such a sad ending... Hmmm.

Check out the article: http://m.freep.com/news.jsp?key=483147&rc=ne&p=2
