firedIf the people around you don’t have the potential for greatness; fire them and hire somebody else.  If the people around you don’t have the leadership capacity to compliment your leadership; you should fire them.  If you have someone on your team that’s a nice person and you love them to death, but they are not performing; you should fire them.  If the people around you complain and really don’t want to be a part or your team; you should fire them. 

If you are any of the above-mentioned people or you’re not developing the above-mentioned people…  you need to fire yourself.

Somebody Is About To Get Fired…  The question is “Is That Somebody You, or Somebody else?”

    Be careful, firing one’s self might put them in a depressive state. Maybe just a leave of absence for a while, and put yourself in another dept. LOL

    If you are any of the above-mentioned people or you’re not developing the above-mentioned people… you need to fire yourself.

    A great leader will make everyone around them great and a great leader will also recognize when a team member needs to find another team!

    Developing and discipling are the keys? But you mention ‘fire’ or ‘fired’ 7 times and ‘developing’ and ‘discipling’ 1 and 0 times respectively. If they’re the keys, they’re not getting much air time relative to some version of ‘fire them.’

    I’m not saying your approach doesn’t work. Your approach certainly can generate results.

    My claim is simply that your approach doesn’t appear to be the approach of Jesus.

    I’m not trying to be a troll at all. Your post just seems much more consistent with Alec Baldwin’s Glengarry Glen Ross monologue (or maybe Paul) than something Jesus would say.

    Heck, maybe that’s okay. I’m just assuming the ministry industry wants to lead less like ‘The good news is you’re fired’ [Baldwin] and more like ‘Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.’

    If the people around you don’t have the leadership capacity to compliment your leadership; you should fire them. – Do we all compliment God’s leadership. If we fall short does he fire us?

    If you have someone on your team that’s a nice person and you love them to death, but they are not performing; you should fire them. – Do we all perform up to God’s standard? Does he fire us?

    If the people around you complain and really don’t want to be a part or your team; you should fire them. – Does God fire those who don’t want to be part of his team, or does he continue to work on their hearts?

    If you are any of the above-mentioned people or you’re not developing the above-mentioned people… you need to fire yourself. – Should I be fired if I’m the one being developed?

    I understand your point, and don’t completely disagree, but I question if its harshness follows God’s will. Everyone has the potential for greatness, but sometimes it takes an exceptional leader to bring it out… Are you that leader? Everyone has different spiritual gifts, just because one’s may not be leadership are they to be punished? If one is not performing, does their weakness rest solely on their shoulders or in those tasked with their leadership? If people are complaining and not wanting to be part of the team, does that mean they are always in the wrong?

    I agree that I want strong, determined, productive, loving people on my teams as well, but, as a leader, I have to create an environment that will nurture and produce those personalities.

    Um, you’re making my point for me, Scott.

    God does not fire the people you’re advocating firing.

    You put it better than I did, I think.

    What you’re advocating is not the way Jesus led and not the way God acts toward his followers.

    Jay- I appreciate your comments and thoughts… My heart and intent with the last sentence is for leaders to recognize the importance of development and discipleship. Leaders must be accountable and recognize their responsibility to develop!
    Scoot- I heart development… Yes we can do all things through Christ, yes we all have potential for greatness! We can’t all be great at all things nor all roles!

    Development, Development, Development: Leaders in my opinion should develop a person to be great in their current seat or help them find another seat where they can be happy, great and reach their God potential!

    Who knows, I’m not very smart :-) I have developed many, many more than I have “Fired” and I have worked for leaders that needed to fire themselves!
