Why Short Blog Posts Are Better!
There are obvious advantages for the reader, when it comes to reading a short blog post as compared to a longer one. Blog readers are reading blogs for personal value and not for the mere enjoyment of reading unnecessary words and details.
You’re reading this blog post for one simple reason: To find out Why Short Blog Posts Are Better! Short blog posts are better because they’re short, brief, precise, pointed, concise, succinct, pithy… while still providing value to the reader. This is a great life lesson; only say what’s necessary.
Short blog posts are better because they’re short. It doesn’t mean long posts are bad, it just means that short posts are better. If you don’t believe me ask my buddy Twitter, he says everything in 140 characters or less!
What do you think? Are short blog posts better?

Short for me is best cause I skim for what I’m looking for…I also write in short posts as well.
IMO, it’s always best to keep it pithy. Always.
Short it almost always best. Honestly…if it’s too long I typically will just skim a post if I read it at all.
In think like anything, people search for ideas and insight. They grab for golden nuggets of truth and clarity, so a short Blog post offers that, then people can go and process their own finding from their. A long Blog would suggest the idea, insight, details, direction, opinion, truth, facts, opinions on the facts etc…too much.
Idea. Insight. allow people to process it.
I like to skim read. So short posts with bold, quality paragraph headers are the way to go.
Short is golden! Say only what you mean. Say it with passion. Say it with compassion. Then shut up!
Oh, now you tell me… after I just finished posting a 1,200 post about online church, worship, and the theology of presence.
Thanks for all of the comments, Sometimes I need to take my on advice!
shorter is better because i enjoy reading several blogs so it helps with time. lol… but seriously. i love seth godin’s blog post and he normally keeps his short but provides so much. short!
I generally prefer shorter posts, but it depends on the topic and the writer. Sometimes more words are needed to clearly and creatively articulate a point.
I also don’t mind reading posts that are longer if they are penned by a gifted writer. If posts are longer, however, I prefer there to be lots of white space, bulleted lists, bolded titles, and/or other formatting gimmicks to make the piece more enticing.
Short and to the point! Sometimes less is definitely more. Good ‘short’ post.
Great Reminder Scott. Spot on. As a reader I pass by the long stuff looking for more of the meat in the post. As a blogger I have tried to put into practice keeping my post appox 600 words or so. Basically the same principle for writing book reviews. It gives way for around 2 short paragraphs if that. It helps to narrow my focus without rambling as well. Thanks again for the reminder.
Scotty Scott!! Yeah, I generally like shorter posts… but as someone said above, it depends on the topic and the writer. I’ve gravitated (for now anyway) toward a more “devotional” style of writing… so my posts have gotten a tad longer. But I still only say what needs to be said, and try to leave the reader wanting more. Bottom line is, have something to say and people will read what you right.

Shorter blog posts are better – we’re all just too busy to read long posts. The exception is when a longer post catches me fast (in the first sentence or two) – then I’ll push through and read the whole thing.
And when you think about it, short posts are MUCH harder to write than long ones. It takes a talented writer to put together a compelling piece in very few words!
