Are You "A Leader" or "The Leader"?

the leaderPronunciation: “A Leader” Uh-Leader and “The Leader” Thuh Leader

Just because you are “A Leader” doesn’t necessarily mean that you are “The Leader”

Just because you are “A Leader” who leads a church of 500 people; doesn’t mean that you are “The Leader” to take that church to over a thousand people

Just because you are “A Leader” that has a position, a title and a nice office; doesn’t mean that you are “The Leader” that people believe in, respect and are excited to follow

Just because you are “A Leader” that people look up to today; doesn’t mean that you are going to be “The Leader” that people look up to tomorrow

Just because you are “A Leader” on this team; doesn’t meant that you are going to be “The Leader” on that team

Just because you are “The Leader” to this particular group or faction; doesn’t mean you will be “The Leader” to that group or faction

If you are “A Leader” and think that you are “The Leader” remember that self-deception is a killer… know your place and respect your space

Although both are important, there is definitely a difference between being “A Leader” and “The Leader”

The harsh reality is that some people who are “A Leader” will never be “The Leader”

The harsher reality is that with determination, hard work and a teachable spirit “A Leader” can and will become “The Leader”

Or it seems like in some cases, all that hard work and determination goes into creating “The leader”… but “The leader” is someone else. That’s the harshest reality but perhaps most common.

Great post, I got from it the reality of learning, humility and acceptance.
This is most true when you are NEW to a place.
It’s important to recognize who has influence around you, if your a Leader, you must earn their trust and respect in order for them to believe in YOU, they gotta buy into YOU first before you can LEAD them.
THE leader has earned the trust of his team, followers, org, church through hard work but most of all, I think consistent character and integrity. What they say IS consistent with what they do and THAT is what makes THEM _THE leader not just_a_leader.
Love this post, gotta twitter it.

I think that the biggest thing for a leader to do is he/she must first learn to follow.

Love the sign off on this.

I work on being A leader daily but and you’re correct being The leader is much different. Being a leader could be done from the crowd but being the leader requires spot lights and a microphone (in a metaphoric type way).
