100 FREE Copies "Transforming Church In Rural America"

transformI remember the old days of growing up in Rural America, we called it “The Country.”  That might be a shock to many of you, but I have not been a city slicker all of my life.  I distinctly remember attending church in Rural America.  I don’t have these memories of being a child that was in awe of my church experience, as a matter of fact it was quite opposite.  I grew up believing that church in Rural America operated a certain way and that way was definitely different than church in the Big City.  It wasn’t a matter of thinking negative about church in Rural America, those were just the rules that my experiences and society had set.

My friend Shannon O’Dell breaks all of the rules about church in Rural America.  Shannon and his wife Cindy left my hometown of Oklahoma City and their church of 4k to accept a calling to Rural Arkansas to a town with a population of 88.  That’s what you call faith and obedience.  That’s also called breaking the rules.

Shannon decided to write a book to share his experiences and vision, the book’s title is quite fitting “Transforming Church in Rural America: Breaking All The Rurals.”  In Transforming Church in Rural America, Pastor Shannon O’Dell shares a powerful vision of relevance, possibility, and excellence for these small churches, or for any ministry that is stuck in a “rural state of mind.” The book reveals:

  • How to generate growth through transformed lives
  • ways to create active evangelism in your community
  • no-cost solutions for staffing challenges, enhancing the worship experience, and inspiring volunteers

Focusing on vision, attitude, leadership, and innovation, you can learn the practical strategies and biblical guidance that helped to grow a church of 31 into a multi-campus church of several thousand, with a national and global outreach. Discover effective structure and ways to cast God-given vision so others can follow and make an impact. Experience the blueprint for transforming into effective, dynamic, and thriving churches – no matter where the location or how small it may be.  As someone who is on staff at LifeChurch.tv (The Most Innovative Church In America), I say Shannon’s insights and innovations are valuable for all ministry leaders.

Having grown up in the country, I would love to read Shannon O’Dell’s new book on the Rural Church in American. The local church is the hope to change the world, but it doesn’t get more “local” then a town of 1,000.

  • Steven H

I would love to have a copy of this book, the local church is where the work is done. Having family in a rural church I will be sure to share this with them too!

  • http://bethedomino.wordpress.com whittmadden

It sounds like a really interesting book!

  • Seth

Would love a copy of this book as I grew up in rural America. Looking at ways a church can break down barriers and let God use even the smallest church is great.

  • http://pastoralaesthetic.blogspot.com ChrisAgne

I would love a free copy of this book. I am a rural pastor, and am always looking for ways to transform my community and further Christ’s kingdom. Plus, “free” fits into my congregation’s limited budget.

  • jwill85

Because I work at a church in rural America and we need to be transformed!!

  • Nathan

It would be awesome to get this book. Author has been highly recommended by a fellow ‘rural’ pastor. Thanks Scott!

Being a rural pastor myself and seeing the canvas of any church is continually changing, this book will be a great resource

  • Jason

Being a former member of Shannon’s old church of 8k, I grew up with Shannon O’Dell as my youth pastor. You won’t find many men like Shannon who love and serve the Lord unashamedly. I would love to get a copy of his book to see where the Lord has taken him and what he is doing in Shannon’s life and ministry.

  • Paul Carreon

I would love to get this book. I have heard a lot of good things about it on the Twitterverse.

  • Bert Newman

Sounds like a interesting book I would like to read. Growing up in small rural America, community of 1500 in Oklahoma, I often wondered if small church would survive because pastors didn’t want to go there. Now attending a church of 2500 I see it is still about connections and relationships. Rural teens still need to hear God is the answer and not drinking, drugs etc.

  • http://Www.pixldesigns.com joshbrown

So much of America is still rural. This book will be great encouragement to those of us that live in the country and still believe people here need Jesus.

  • ScottTodd77

Having grown up in a city of 16 million and now ministering in a county of 15,000 I could really use some help from this book!
    Help a city-slicker out!

  • sprad

hey bro…this is the world i am living in, would like a copy! looking forward to seeing you sunday!

Currently serving in a church in rural America, I would look forward to the author’s insights into transforming the local church in the rural setting.

B/c rethinking the rural church is better than giving up on it.

  • http://www.wsfc.org johnfehlen

I would love to get a copy of this book. I oversee a group of churches in our Foursquare denomination. Most of which are smaller and in rural communities. I’ve been on the look out for a resource that would challenge them without begin condescending.

    Thanks.

  • Josh

We are in the middle of doing this!

  • devbeth

Scott – I would love to get my hands on a copy of this book. I grew up in a big city and experienced big churches. I now live in a town of 1200 and attend a rural church. We have wonderful ministers, attendance of about 150 a week. Our mid-week activities aimed toward youth attract 200-250. Many of those only attend church on Wednesday nights, and I doubt that their parents ever attend. It would be wonderful to bring them into the fold.
I enjoy your website and follow you on twitter.
    Blessings -

Thanks for the cool offer, Scott!
I currently co-pastor a church in a rural setting, although our agrarian society is quickly becoming like any.
I would love to have a copy of this book to sharpen my church’s focus on the people we are trying to reach. Good stuff!

I would love to win a copy, I am involved in a church plant with H20 Church.tv. I am passionate about sharing the vision and the gospel with smaller communities. :)

  • Nanci

Having been raised in the country, moved to a big city, and now living in a rural area once again I would love to gain a fresh perspective on ways to unite the two seemingly at odds churches. I have been to many different types of churches, and right now live among Mennonites. This book, I believe, would help me understand ways to connect and get them excited about Jesus! After all, He is coming soon and He wants His Church united! :)

  • JWatLU

It seems like the fastest growing churches in American are suburban churches. I need helping learning how to transform a church that is in a more rural setting rather than on the outskirts of the big city!

  • http://www.EncounterMinistries.org Lee Cole

I would love a copy of the book as I currently serve in a rural church.

  • http://twitter.com/nashpropst nashpropst

Growing up in Rural America and now serving a church in a Suburban area, I’ve found that people in rural areas are a lot less open to major change. We have a lot of churches, (my “home” church included) that could use a breath of fresh air. As a leader in the local church I love being on the front lines of change. I think this book will be a great tool to display how Christ can bring hope and change to some stagnant areas. Not only in the churches, but also in the hearts of the people that fill them.

  • http://matthewlistens.info matthewlistens

Why am I interested in this book?

Well, in short, my wife, our children and I are feeling a sense of stirring to move to a farm, and start a multiplication center where we can raise up people through an internship to do ministry, and establish multiple sites where churches are planted via a grass roots sort of method. Establishing business and ministry with coffee and probably agriculture/livestock. This book fits.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • anya r.

I live in a town of less than 300 people, and 4 churches. The overwhelming sense among some of them is one of stagnation as they are happy to just sit and do things the way they’ve always been done. Tradition takes the front seat in everything they do. The church community in this town needs a revolution, I’d love to pass this book along to the pastors here.

  • jks2803

I would love a copy of this interesting book.

  • mslimmer

I’m currently attending a rural church in the midst of change, and would love to receive a copy of this book to perhaps do as a small-group study. If I see benefit in the book, I would certainly be willing to buy my pastor a copy. Thanks for providing this opportunity!

  • Miguel

I would like a copy of this book to possibly inspire my life.

  • joshjsilva

I would love a copy of this book it sounds like a perfect book to help me understand the rural church community. My calling is to pastor and will most likely be in a rural town. I have always felt that there is no reason why a rural church couldn’t have a major impact for the kingdom but it seems as though more pastors want to be in the city and with larger churches. I want to be where God is moving and I don’t think it is just the city where HE wants to move.

  • http://Www.jkriggs.com Jkriggs

  • http://www.faith-journey.com Paul Bowman

Sounds like an interesting read, especially since so many books about “doing church” seem to be more focused on urban or suburban contexts. I’d love a copy!

  • JasonHunt

Having grown up in a massive church, I have always wondered how rural churches compare. Is the experience more personal (as I imagine it is wihtout eight thousand other people to share it)? Is there a focus on growth with a limited population or is maintenance where it’s at? I’m looking forward to reading about and thank you for the free book opportunity!

I would love to receive a copy of this book. I grew up in a truly Rural church (we were 10 miles from the closest “town”!), and, although the church where we serve is technically in a town, it is certainly a rural town. My husband is the associate pastor, and could certainly use some encouragement and new ideas. Thanks!

  • Randy Mellichamp

I would love a copy of this book. I live in a rural county that needs some major church changes. We are seeing some of those changes happen but would love to hear from one who has been there. This is a long overdue book as the bog changes that so many are going through don’t always fit the “mold” of a small town. Thanks for the offer.

One that I am sure to Read ;)
Always good to see my ministry through someone else’s eyes.

    Haven’t learned it all yet.

  • http://www.multiplicms.com multiplicms

Would love a copy as I’m from a small town down in Texas (cue the boos as I’m a Sooner fan now) and grew up in a small town church. The funny thing is that I see a lot of “small town church” in a lot of the big city churches here in OKC. It’s like they are stuck in this religious rut and can’t seem to figure out how to get out but even sadder, they don’t seem to want to get out of it. I’m always looking for a great read from another perspective so I’d love a copy. :)

This book looks incredible. Growing up in small-town Missouri (before moving to Tulsa), I had similar issues with the church. Not necessarily anger/hatred or anything like that, more of just boredom I guess. Some serious faith for this family to do what they are doing. Should be a great story!

I always thought there had to be more to the “church thing” than just going to a building every time the doors were open. Since I have been away at college in St. Louis, I have seen how Christians can live their faith anywhere they are, whether it’s in the “Big City” or in Rural America. I see such a sharp contrast between the church in St. Louis and the church in Rural America. What the church in Rural America needs is a revival not brought about by a time set aside on a calendar for a “revival.” I’m talking about praying eagerly and waiting patiently for God to transform the lives of people in Rural America. That’s a true revival.

That is a very kind and thoughtful thing to share free copies. Hopefully each person can pay it forward and make significant and meaningful changes with the information in the book!
