10 Reasons I Like My iPad

I am an Apple fan, for too many reasons to name and not enough reasons to complain.  My entire family has the iPhone including my Wife, 11yo and 7yo.  My 7yo.’s is an iPod touch for all intents and purposes, because it’s not activated.  I have a MacBook Pro, which definitely thinks like I think.

I debated for weeks and tried to talk myself into getting the latest addition to the Forbidden Fruit Family, the iPad.  I was getting close to talking myself into it, when my amazing wife and children surprised me with an iPad on Father’s Day.  They also got me the wireless keyboard and a Dodo Case. I have come to really like my iPad and I will share 10 brief reasons why.

10 Reasons I Like My iPad

  • 1.  It looks and feels amazing.
  • 2.  The Internet processing is really fast.
  • 3.  The apps are more robust and quite enlarged.
  • 4.  My kids think its cool and playing Angry Birds for them is twice the fun.
  • 5.  It is combining my computer, phone, moleskin, doodling paper, sticky notes… into 1 place.
  • 6.  I can do my writing with a good sized virtual keyboard and transfer word documents w/ Pages app.
  • 7.  I can record the audio of any meeting and take random typewritten notes.  I can later go back and click that typewritten portion of the notes and it will take me to that audio portion of the meeting with the SoundPaper app.
  • 8.  I can use it for preaching, weddings, leadership talks etc.
  • 9.  Dodo Case makes it look professional and like I’m carrying a moleskin notebook. (see pic above)
  • 10.  The ebook reader is amazing, the iPad is quick and handy, it’s replacing me carrying around my laptop, it’s cool, it’s practical, it’s a conversation starter, reading the Bible is awesome, the games are better…  I could go on and on!

What are the reasons you like your iPad?  If you don’t have one are you debating getting one?  Do you simply say, I’d never get one.

Debating about whether or not to get one. I haven’t been able to convince myself I really NEED one but I’m traveling a lot more these days and lugging my MBP is not nearly as convenient as I would like it to be. So the debate continues. I will no doubt eventually convince myself of the need for it but for now I just haven’t quite gotten there…yet :)

I am really debating about getting one for myself. The more that time goes on and I see what it can do, I am looking forward to it. I just this week saw the dodocase for it and I really like that case.

Would love one, but, as a SAHM to 5, there’s no reason why I •need• one. If I even had the spending money to pick one up, I wouldn’t even know which kind to get, w/data service or w/out? Am I missing out on anything by going the 3G route?
    Thoroughly love my iPhone.
Our 11 year old daughter uses my first gen the same way, as an iTouch.

    • Scott Williams

I have the 3G but mainly use wifi and tethering to iPhone.

My husband got me the iPad for Mothers Day. I love it. I’m a stay at home mom, and that means I’m running lots of places. The iPad fits in the diaper bag and is handy when we have to wait at practices or doctors appointments. It’s a great distraction for the 2 year old, lots of apps for younger kids. And I put on music to soothe our newborn. For myself, I love the iBooks app, I can read anywhere.

    • Scott Williams

That could be a post for SAHM’s well said, thanks for sharing.

I love that I get to use Marc’s on a regular basisn (he uses it mostly for teaching). My favorite thing about it? Ease of use from bed. Less heavy then my laptop, and love that I can just touch and go. Coolest part for me is flipping it around and watching the screen flip! It doesn’t take much to make me happy though!

    • Scott Williams

Very good, I like teaching with it… I sometimes roll with back-up notes.

That settles it, I’m getting one!

I can see how it would work in my everyday life perfectly, but, I just can’t pull the trigger. I just know that as great as iPad 1.0 is, iPad 2.0 is going to be that much greater, so I wait… and sigh.

  • Scott Williams

I hope it doesn’t get much better. sigh

    I love my iPad 3G 16G!

I am a solo pastor in small town. It is perfect for running back and forth across the street from church to home. Picking it up in a moments notice to go visiting or whatever.

It travels well, light, compact, not a pain to carry around.

It does about 95% of whatever i need to do on computer. I have to face it, no matter how techie I am, I am not a power user. I have mostly small files, no need for large expensive data bases, etc.

If you don’t get into downloading every app, & putting in thousand of songs 16gigs is enough space for anyone. If you have many files Uploadingit.com works well for storage. I have 5+ gigs free.

Most of my bible study is on Logos, a free app, that I have on all my computers, but mostly used on iPad now.
It works well with another program for preaching.

Bad things are, while it has a AT&T phone # you can’t text with it.
Being an Apple product it is necessarily about $100.00 over priced

It could use some more storage options. Read that as needs a sd Card. Don’t mention to Apple store employees, they can’t think past company rhetoric.
Last bad thing: Apple employees tend to tell their customers what they want and will actually tell the customer that they are wrong and don’t know what they are talking about if the customer is not falling into the company mantra.

But all in all a great computing devise. I am really happy with mine.

I’d love to get an iPad, but my only hesitation is that I really like to take hand-written notes during meetings. I feel like the virtual keyboard, or even getting a wireless keyboard would be too cumbersome for me to take quick notes. My goal would be to solely use the iPad for everything and not have to carry around a paper notepad or moleskin.

have you seen or tried any good handwriting recognition type of apps? I’ve heard Evernote is working on that.

It’s the only thing keeping me from moving on it! maybe it’s not a big deal?

    thoughts?

The iPad just arrive to Mexico yesterday. I bought it. I work as Programming & Event Coordinator of my church I think it will help me a lot. But I’m having problems to find the best Apps. Any recommendations? Please?

  • Allison

I love my iPad!! I am the graphic designer on staff at our church. While I obviously can’t use it for designing I can drop designs into my iDisk or dropbox and view them as PDF in iBook to show off. If I find inspiration online it’s one touch to save it to my iPad for future viewing.

It has awesome apps for brain mapping and collecting visual, handwritten, and typed notes into one place (corkulous I really like for that).

I use Penultimate to take handwritten notes in notebooks. The handwriting recognition is amazing.

I LOVE pulse reader to keep all of my fav blogs and news outlets all in one place to read like a newsfeed. I use it 10 times a day!

I love doing bible study on the large screen., Letting my kids watch netflix movies on the road and reading books in iBook.

There are soooo many reasons I love my iPad. I could go on all day!

I love it for all the reasons already mentioned.
