The First Day Of School

Tomorrow is the first day of school for my son’s who are now going into the 2nd and 6th grade.  This is a big year, as it’s the first year for my 11yo son Wesley to be in Middle school and this will be the only year that my youngest son has attended public school without his brother being at the same school.  They will not be together for the remainder of their school careers.

Although they love summer break, they cannot wait until school starts tomorrow.  They have already neatly laid their clothes out that they will be wearing on the first day.  They have a sincere excitement on their face along with a deep anticipation of what this new school year will bring.

I remember the First Day Of School and no matter the school year, it was always a Big Deal. What is it about the first day of school that is such a BIG Deal?  I mean seriously, it’s not like we have never experienced it before, it just happens to be a new year.

There are many things that make First Day Of School so exciting.  It’s a day of anticipation, possibilities, connections, potential and opportunities.  The First Day Of School is not about “what is”, but rather about “what could be.”

What if we lived every day like it was the first day of school?

  • We would anticipate what tomorrow will bring.
  • We would dream about the possibilities.
  • We would look forward to new connections and appreciate existing relationships.
  • We would focus on realizing our potential.
  • We would realize the only thing between us and success is opportunity.

Live your life as though tomorrow is The First Day Of School.

Do you live your life as though tomorrow is The First Day Of School?  What do you remember about your first days of school?

I love that photo of your son heading toward the bus. Brings back many memories of my son’s first day of school. Those days sure speed by quickly. Sounds like you’re enjoying every moment. God bless you.

If the only thing between us and success is opportunity, what exactly is it that we need to realize? Isn’t salvation the ultimate success? What’s left? What’s left out? Silly word games, I know. (grin)

Opportunity to be saved by grace and the realization of who you are in Christ and upon that realization – anticipation, possibilities, connections, potential and opportunities are bountiful. (grin)

My first day of school for this semester was fun. Being an oldie on campus, I found great pleasure in directing the new students to their building, telling classmates what to expect from the professor, and most impotently laughing at the fashion show that was taking place before my eyes. I only laugh because I give them a couple of weeks, an they’ll be rockin’ some sweats :)

Big Woman on campus… I’m glad it was fun.

    Great post Scott!

Each day should be treated as the 1st day of school. Every day is new and full of possibilities and opportunities of what that day might bring. It’s funny that you posted this today because Brittany and I had that very conversation in the car last night on our way home from SWITCH. She is both nervous and excited about facing a new school year. Nervous about the unknown and excited about starting over, starting a new year at a new school.

Good answer! Thankfully, these days, I just try to make my grandchild’s first day of school the best it can be. Actually, I was talking about the already saved. Shouldn’t y’all be anticipating what the next moment will bring? Then again, why realize potential connections and opportunities today when they will be just as bountiful tomorrow? You’re busy! Tomorrow has to be planned. It’s not gonna just take care of itself!(grin)
