Leadership Is Not About A Title

I know this may me alarming to some, but leadership has nothing to do with title.  The days of people following leaders and believing in them simply because of their title and position are long gone.  Positional equity will only get you so far and that so far is actually not far at all.

Employees need to know that you care.

Employees need to have a reason to believe in your leadership.

Employees don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Relational equity trumps positional equity every time.

“Men don’t follow titles, they follow courage.” ~ William Wallace (Braveheart)

    – dude, I think this is key. people will chase after a person of faith into the darkest & most dangerous environments. we must show them Christianity not preach it or delegate it. yeah, be Jesus with skin on and you’ll never lack workers/followers (and miracles).

    my $0.02 worth. ;)

    I love your blog!

Leadership is overrated anyway, if you ask me. My most favorite post these days, “Fallacies of individual leadership” by Jim Stroup

Leadership is a gift not something that we should throw around. I am actually in the middle of a series of post in that fits with what you have just shared called, Job descriptions – who needs them.

Would love your thoughts over at http://www.davidmehrle.com

Management and leadership. These two words are often used interchangeably, yet they mean entirely different things.

I wrote a blog post on the differences in a manager and a leader today. I think it relates to your post quite nicely.

I find this interesting. I recently wrote a similar thought in a letter to a leader who is over leaders. I am not on staff anywhere in a church or do I have a title, other than my name. I mentor women. I traveled to 2 countries teaching and equipping and I’ve been told I am a person of influence. So, yes I agree with your thoughts.
