Win A FREE iPad – Almost Isn’t Good Enough

Can you believe Christmas is just a week away and it’s almost here.  The problem with almost is this — “Almost Isn’t Good Enough.” If you almost win a million dollars, if your team almost won the game, if you almost took that step towards doing the right thing, if you are almost saved…  The bottom line is almost just isn’t good enough.

I had the opportunity to read a great book, by a great leader, with a great story, leading a great organization and all for a great cause.  Wayne Elsey is the Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls, a non-profit that has given away 13 million pairs of shoes in 6 years.  Wayne was a game changer in the footwear industry for more than 30 years, and was the youngest Vice President of Stride-Rite at 22 (with only a high school education).  @WayneElsey is a simple guy who cares about others and gave it all up for a dream to change the world.

That’s what his new book Almost Isn’t Good Enough is all about, It’s about challenging us to realize we only have one chance at this thing we call life.  Wayne does an excellent job of weaving real life stories with practical insights that will challenge and inspire you to look at you life, purpose and decisions differently.  As Wayne puts it in Almost Isn’t Good Enough, “Each of us has a brand. We reinforce this by the decisions we make and the actions we take.”  In other words we are what we do and not the lip service of what we say.

We all have the ability to change the world deep down inside of us.  It takes courage, inspiration, faith and those God moments to bring the world changer out of us.  Wayne draws everything back to the day he saw a shoe washup on shore after the Asian tsunami. Something inside of him made him want to do something instead of just ignore the pain of others. He didnʼt know what it was at the time but he knew he had to take action.

We can only realize our World Changing potential if we take action.  One of my sayings about potential is this, “Potential Unrealized Is Just Potential.” When we know we have the potential to make a lasting difference with whatever we have, wherever we are, and in whatever ways we can, Almost Isn’t Good Enough.” ~Wayne Elsey

If you want to release your world changing potential, get off the couch and stop settling for almost.  Almost Isn’t Good Enough is a great read to kick off your 2011.  The official release of the book is December 26th. The cool thing is I am going to be giving away some copies to some random BigIsTheNewSmall.com readers.

100% of The Proceeds from Almost Isn’t Good Enough benefits Soles4Souls.  That’s called a Win-Win!  Where else can you buy a book, 10 pair of shoes be delivered to someone in need and you get to pick where the shoes go.  Spread the word and buy the book to help Soles4Souls reach their God-Sized goal of giving away 200,000 pairs of shoes to people in need through this book in 2011.

The BIG Give-Away:

In 2010 I had been thinking about doing a BIG giveaway right here at BigIsTheNewSmall.com and almost gave away an iPad.  I recently realized that Almost Isn’t Good Enough, so I decided to go ahead and make it happen. That’s Right… I’m giving away an iPad right before Christmas and everyone has a chance to win.  I will be giving away a nice stack of these Almost Isn’t Good Enough books before you can buy them as well. I would live to win a copy if the book and/or an iPad. You’re Almost isn’t good enough review reminds me of a discussion I had with a youth that was involved with rebuilding a ministry retreat weekend. He told me that he was glad we were making such great progress an that he was excited about what God was doing through the ministry but that it was annoying that we hadn’t gotten it to the place where it matched our vision – “it’s not enough!”

  • Justin McCullah

  • The nature of this reply is in direct response to wanting to submit an entry for an opportunity to win a copy of what looks to be not just a good book I can read; rather so much more the opposite it would be a book in return that would be reading me. Definitely, I want a chance to win a copy of His book and an iPad would be an audacious way to enter into 2011. “But, to ‘Alomst Win Isn’t Good Enough!

  • Love Wayne and what he’s doing. Been following him for a while and have been pumped about his book.

My Grandpa has an iPad. No 3G within 100 miles, no wireless access, but he has an iPad. Something is vey wrong with that. I’ve gotta step up my game.

  • Kyle P.

I am so excited about your give-a-way I ALMOST peed my pants! Count me in Scott!

  • Great post, Scott. I look forward to reading the book in the future. I would love to win a copy of the book and of course, an iPad would be amazing. Merry Christmas!

  • Pat

Man, I’d LOVE to live the book (and the iPad wouldn’t be a bad 2nd prize).

Heading out on the mission field in 2011 (www.respondinternatinoal.org) and both the book and the iPad would be helpful tools.

  • Ooooooo. Pick me. Pick me. Iwin Ipad IthankU. hahah. Keep up the blog. Having the book and the ipad would make for a great blessing. Going overseas to do mission work. Check it out! http://www.chanthachhim.com

  • I’d love an iPad for my sweet daughter with Down syndrome. I’m not as sure about the book, because I like almost. An A- means I’ve understood the content but have been able to keep the remainder of my priorities in balance. Recovering perfectionists need “almost.” It’s a part of accepting grace.

If you think I need the book, I’ll promise to read it.

  • I would love to win the book and the IPAD. Thanks Scott for your inspiration and motivation. I enjoy your daily tweets!

  • Andrea

Thanks for the opportunity to win an ipad and book. I would love to win an ipad and book.

  • Throw my name in the hat for a copy of the book and the iPad. I retweeted @rawchurchduncan and posted to my FB profile. Now headed to check out the website. Thanks for believing almost isnt good enough 😀

  • Andrew Acker

This book sounds amazing! Complacency is a corporate and team killer and I cannot even describe the frustration of getting clients to realize that “almost isn’t good enough”. People sometimes seem to lack a natural urgency to do great things, and this seems like a gook that can compact that sense of complacency with the average.

And a free iPad would make for a great Christmas too.

  • Dalene

I “almost” didn’t leave a comment, thinking I would never win. But I’m dreaming BIG! I’d love to win either the book or the iPad (as the MacBook my hubby bought me when I had our 1st child is a little dated now). Retweeting now…thanks!

  • Sara Thompson

I would like to be entered to win the book and the Ipad. The book sounds really good, and even if I don’t win I think I will go and buy it when it comes out. An Ipad would be amazing to win sionce my daughter (2yrs) has taken over my ipod and I no longer get to use it, lol. Thanks for your great words. Have a Merry Christmas!

  • Gale-Ann

It would be super cool to win the i-Pad. Win or not, I’ll definitely be purchasing the book!

We would LOVE to win the book and the iPad!

I’d love to win that book and an iPad. #FistBump

  • BlessedPanda

Almost winning an iPad is not good enough. So I would really like to win it and the book. Thanks 🙂

  • Scott, I would be blessed to win and ipad.
Been following you on Facebook and Twitter for about 2 years.
Almost went in to ministry several times over 15 years.
About 2 years ago I decided that almost was not good enough and left a middle school teaching career for a full time associate pastor/youth minister position. Man what a ride, what a blessing from God, what a hard job. Lovin every minute of it.

    Peace
    Chris

  • I never win giveaways, so it would be nice to “almost” win. But it would be nicer to actually win a copy of the book and the Ipad.

    Scott!

What a good blogpost about Wayne and his new book. I have asked my husband to read this book with me in the upcoming year. It’s so inspiring to think of what we could accomplish if we aren’t afraid of failing! Winning the book and ipad would be a really cool blessing too. 😉
    barb

I read your review and found Wayne Elsey to be a very interesting person. I don’t know why, but when I was reading the review, I thought about former president Jimmy Carter. He has been a inspiration to me in the way he sees those on the earth as his brothers and sisters and how he uses his heart and mind to help people. I have read of few of Carter’s books and always was left wondering how he could just sit around and relax in his retirement, but feels it is his duty to help with Habit for Humanity, physically building houses…it makes me want to do what ever I can to help others. I have a feeling that Wayne Elsey’s will have a similar message. I will wait to see if win the book, or maybe the iPad, but I can see this book in my future, one way or another. I am glad I stumble upon this website.

I pressed the Tweet button after I coping the tweet and hope, if even in a small way it helps to provide some shoes for those in need.

I would love to win the book and Ipad as it would benefit my schooling greatly. When I was in Haiti prequake, we loaded out backpacks with supplies and had boxes of stuff to bring to a remote mountain church/village. It was a 4-5 hour hike to get there, after being dropped off on the side of the road. These barefoot kids grabbed some stuff and started the journey up the rocky mountain pass. When we arrived in the village, I was surprised and glad that those boxes were from Soles4souls and we were able to provide shoes/sandals for the children of these mountain villages who traveled down the mountain pass daily just to get water.

  • Rick McClenthen

I just clicked the link (http://www.wayneelsey.com/almostisntgoodenoughbook/) to find out more details about this book. There are some power messages in this book! This is obvious, because of the meaningful messages found just in the description of the book. One of the statements I like is:

“It’s an invitation to intercede on behalf of others becuse the human connection changes everything.”

If you think about it…technology can help us communicate, grow food, design and build a city and the infrusture, but if no one wants to do for the sole purpose of doing this for the benefit of others, it will not be done.

OK, yes it would make me feel good to win an iPad, but I can’tiemagine how I would feel if I get away from this computer and was able to not just help those in need but help to sustain their life in a positive manner. I think the book could lead me to a way of life to do just that.

    Yeah for Christmas!!

  • Jeff Abramovitz

Would love to win both-the book because faith without works is dead we are told. Works doesnt justify God-given faith but us rather an expression of our love for God and for others. Like my wife told me when we were first married, “telling me you love me doesn’t prove you love me when your actions speak otherwise” the same is true of almost doing something with great intention. Intentions have never net a need. Book sounds great. And, have wanted an iPad so this us a great giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity.

  • I went to see Tron last night. In IMAX 3D. It was my first 3D movie. I felt like I was the last person to see a movie in 3D. It was sad really. And late. Thankfully, I stayed awake for the movie. The point? I don’t want to be the last person to get an iPad. The whole 3D thing was painful enough. Everybody laughing, pointing. An iPad would solve that. I’m sure of it.

  • I would love to win the book…….and the iPad!!!! Sign me up – now to the twitterverse!!!

  • Rick McClenthen

So today I was reading the ‘About” page Wayne Elsey site. He is a man of action. This is evident by his actions. Making the call to his colleages in the footwear business…the business he was familiar with…to provide shoes to the Indonesian tsunami victims. He made the call…not almost made the call. I think we all can learn from him.

There is still time left to help out that organization that helps those in need this holiday season…maybe an organization that provides shelter for the homeless or food for the hungry. Everyone here is on the internet. Make the donation electronically so it helps today. If it you do it today, there will be no excuse tomorrow like “I almost made a donation, but (insert your excuse here).”

I would like to win the Ipod and book for a really good reason. I am a 7th grade inner city school teacher who would love to share the Ipod technology with my students. It could change the way I teach and the way the students learn. I also teach English, so a good read is always on my list of must haves.

    Thank you!

  • Hey Scott! Please enter me in to win an IPAD as well as a copy of the book Almost isn’t Good Enough. I am in the process of moving to Alabama to become the new full-time student pastor of a great church in the Florence area. An IPAD would be a great tool for me to use in my ministry. Scott, your website has a been a great source of inspiration, keep up the good work. I HOPE I WIN!!!

    Sincerely,
    Cliff

  • I would love a book, but I would love an iPad more!!

  • Not a quitter. Ever. Have never, ever, ever let something or someone stop me. Started a non profit to work with kids in the performing arts — we don’t make money. We do work with excellence — and help change lives! Could SO use the iPad. Will put it to unbelievably good use. Not even believable. Remarkably astoundingly fantastically amazingly profoundly big use. Ok. Sticking with that. I know the recipient will be deserving. Still won’t quit…

Time Stamp Test… Timestamp is 6hrs off, so the last comment allowed would be 5:59 a.m. Dec. 24th because of the time stamp error. I Might need to fix that!

I have adjusted time stamp and removed any comments that were after the 11:59 deadline on the 23rd. (Now 5:59 am on Dec. 24th). I have removed all duplicate comments, like “I want to win,” next comment immediately following “I just tweeted it” etc.

I am turning comments off, so we won’t have any interruptions to the #’s. What I will be doing is a random number selection of 6’s #’s with the range being 1-700… My comment is 701 so that’s the ending place. The 1st 5 #’s will be the recipients of the books (gonna get you some signed copies). The bottom and 6th number will be the winner of the iPad. I will post a video of the random drawing.
