Great Leaders Do This

My thoughts in something that Great Leaders do. I’m actually on a quick 35 minute flight back from Dallas as I’m doodling these thoughts in my journal. The bottom line is great leaders don’t set out to find consensus, they mold consensus. Great leaders don’t simply adapt to culture, but rather they help to shape culture.

Share your thoughts, how have you seen this concept played out in organizations or teams that you have been a part of?

I would add a big one that is foundational. They “learn” from culture. Without it, we have no reference to what the culture is or we become a destroyer of current culture and exclude too many people.

Absolutely… Maybe I would have added that if the flight wasn’t 30 min. in the air, I would have added that. :) All great leaders learn culture.

  • Gail Dudley

Totally agree with your design from your SW flight!

    • Scott Williams

Thx for the comment Gail… How are you doing?

Every organization, whether a business or church, has a culture. But not every organization has a real leader. Cultures can be a road to no where or a highway to success. Real leaders shape, define, create, and build cultures that enable success on both an organizational level as well as personal level.

IMHO, I like your design but I don’t think it is as powerful as the message it is trying to communicate.

Please keep posting these. I continue to learn everyday from your posts, tweets, and books.

    Yours because I’m His,

Thanks for the comment…. I like the road to nowhere or highway to success.

Hi, I agree with your post, but in some cultures the traditions are very strong and could be difficult for the leader create, built, define and shape the culture,  instead is necessary to find a way a direction and share with his team, no matter the culture or the scenario, he will show the path to others maybe vision, innovation or even imagination is necessary be present in your diagram. Greetings!

    • Scott Williams

Excellent point… over those scenarios are part of the indirect shaping of the culture.
