Stand For Something! Chick-fil-A Day and Antoine Dodson

In life we have the daily opportunity to profess who we are, what we are about and what we stand for. I happen to be typing this post on the day that has been deemed as “Chick-fil-A Day.” This is the day to support the traditional American Family values as professed by the Christian Faith.

Chick-fil-A recently came under fire for a statement that President Dan Cathy made to the Baptist Press about their organization’s support of the traditional family unit. Cathy was quoted saying this,

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.” ~Dan Cathy

I’m not going to go into a lot of details, arguments or small talk on the subject… I will sum this up very succinctly. I was told this as a young man, “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” Chick-fil-A is standing for something. This facebook page in support of Chick-fil-A shows hundreds of thousands are standing with them.

Unfortunately, we live in a day and age where people seem to be more focused on what and who they are against rather than what and who they are for. We must stop focusing on what we are against, and begin focusing on what we are for. We must Stand For Something!

Personally, I’m a huge fan of Chick-fil-A: their business model, commitment to excellence, leadership development and because they stand for something. The fact that their food is amazing is just a nice bonus. My family will eat Chick-fil-A today, tomorrow, next week, next year… probably until the cows come home. (pun intended)

Even, Mr. Hide Your Kids and Hide Your Wife Antoine Dodson stands with Chick-fil-A. Dodson was quoted as saying,  ”

“If I want a Chick-fil-A sandwich I’m gonna have a Chick-fil-A sandwich… So you can run and tell that.”

Thank you for articulating exactly what I have been discussing all over.  Love your reminder to stand for something number 1 and second, love that you found this YouTube video.  Says it so well.

  • Great reminder. We must stop focusing on our differences and move beyond what separates us. I truly appreciate Dan Cathy’s leadership by example, heart, and excellence. Like Mr. Dodson said, them waffle fries is banking… I live!!!!

Chick-fil-a is standing for spreading hate. Not focusing on what they are against is like looking the other way when someone is about to be hit by a bus. You can yell out and help them move out of the way of the bus, or you can look the other way and choose to not really see what’s going on. Choosing to look the other way and support Chick-fil-a,  a company that is spending millions of dollars to deny a group of human beings their BASIC civil rights, is just plain wrong. There’s no other way to look at it. Chick-fil-a stands for hate, and if you, as a Christian, or just as a human being in general, support hate, then I feel pretty darn sorry for you.

I would never support a company that chooses to support groups thy discriminate. I don’t care if your gay, straight, black, purple, handicapped, etc. If a company is trying to deny anyone their rights, I will not support them. I only believe in love and only support love. Chick-fil-a stands for hate. Is hate really a value we should be passing down to our children?

I don’t understand how as a man who professes to be all about diversity and inclusion can openly exclude gay people. we are all human beings and by Chickfila donating millions of dollars to a cause that continues to keep us separate, how is that helping us “move beyond what separates us”?? This country was founded on the principle that all men are treated equal… NOT all STRAIGHT MEN. ALL CHRISTIAN MEN. ALL. MEN. Period. Gay people are denied the basic civil rights that straight people are able to take advantage of all the time. How many of your friends are on their second.. maybe even third marriage? Are you throwing stones at them and yelling adulteress?! If we are going to embrace diversity then thats accepting ALL people not just who you are comfortable with. And this is where Mr. Cathy has missed the mark. His donations have made sure that diversity is not supported. So how can YOU the king of diversity support him? We are all You are entitled to do whatever you want, just as Mr. Cathy and giving his money to promote hate groups but I hope you can at least have the decency to admit that you are being a hypocrite by not embracing someone who has a different sexual preference as you.

I respectfully disagree with you on this one Scott! Discrimination is Discrimination.  Since you are a critical thinker, I trust that this post doesn’t fully express your thoughts on the topic.  I just wish that you hadn’t use this Antoine Dodson video. It feels like a mockery of gay people.

I am a fan of CFA and will continue to be.
My friends and I have different views on certain things. I don’t stop being friends with them because of it. Truett Cathy is a smart man. He clearly puts the Lord first. If I want a chicken sandwich, I’m going to have one and the only one I will eat is from CFA.

  • Just reading some of the comments here and I wonder… How does not “supporting gay marriage” indicate he discriminates? Does he not give a gay couple or a gay individual a meal if they pay for it? Does the President of CFA deny services to gay individuals? Does he deny gay people from employment at CFA? I don’t see anywhere where he’s done any of that. He’s merely stated his opinion and values. Frankly, if you don’t like that he stood for something, then just eat somewhere else. He stands for something but doesn’t treat people differently. I think there’s a difference between standing up and voicing an opinion/value and discriminating after voicing said opinion/value.

  • This guy is awesome, thanks for the video and post. “You can run and tell that” Love it.

I am really sorry to see this. I really liked your message in our church today but this is not something I can stand behind. Dan Cathy and the Chick-Fil-A model discriminate. There is no way to support or justify that in the eyes of Lord or as a rationale thinking human being. You clearly talk about the importance of diversity but you walk something else which leads me to believe you sir are a gimmick. Please don’t forget not even 50 years ago the same arguments that were being used against the LGBT community today were used against interracial marriage then. Glad I did my research before I went to spread the word about you.
