Dear Lord Baby Jesus…

talladega-nights2.jpg

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas; I thought that I would kick off some post Christmas Cheer w/ a not so funny, funny moment.

This past Thursday night we had a Christmas Party at my house with all of my team members, their spouses and kids….  We had a great time and in the PG-13 movie room; some of us watched “Talladega Nights.”  We were quoting some of the movies’ one-liners; especially the classic prayer at the dinner table.  That movie is rediculously stupid and just plain funny.

On Friday night, we had our first of eight Christmas Weekend Experiences.  During the end of this first experience we were having this holy moment, while singing Silent Night and I busted out with a prayer that went something like this: “Father, thank you for sending Dear Lord Baby Jesus…..”  Are you kidding me, had I really prayed that prayer…?  BTW- Half of the faces in the room were smiling, laughing or attempting to hold back their laugh.

What are your thoughts on the movie “Talladega Nights” or my prayer?  Do you have any blooper moments from 07’ that you would like to share?

"Rated R"

online dating

There is this website that will rate your blog and according to the site my blog is “Rated R.” This was apparently because the word abortion appears 5 times, murder 3 times and shoot 1 time. Wow it looks like I got my rating from one post, “Abortion is Murder.”

This got me thinking about the whole “Rated R” thing and whether or not it is appropriate to watch “Rated R” movies. I know plenty of people who will not touch “Rated R” movies with a ten foot pole and that is definitely their prerogative. Let me share my thoughts; I worked in the Corrections System for over 13 years and according to the rating standards, my job would have definitely been “Rated R.” If you don’t believe me send me an e-mail and I will share some things that I witnessed, experienced and heard that would surpass any “Rated R” rating. Since I have been in ministry I have to counsel couples and individuals on a regular basis that share some “Rated R” stories and “Rated R” experiences.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where “Rated R” is all around us and we have to guard ourselves from that; however we can’t act like it doesn’t exist. Personally I saw a “Rated R” movie this week “American Gangster” with Denzel Washington which was based on a true story of Harlem in the 1960′s. Many people will say “Pastor you did what?!” I enjoy conversations followed by those questions or comments.

Do you think that it is appropriate for Pastors, Christians or anyone to watch “Rated R” movies? What are your personal beliefs about “Rated R” movies? Share your thoughts and I appreciate your candor! Those of you RSS Readers, please chime in as well!

Transformers “Good & Evil"

transformers.jpgMy wife and I took our two boys to see Transformers this past weekend.  It was definitely not what I expected, however I was pleasantly surprised.  What I expected to be a animated movie or cartoon turned out to be an amazing action filled battle of good vs. evil and a classic love story all rolled into one.  You had the Transformers the “Good Guys” and the Decepticons “The Bad Guys” battling.  I thought that there was some cool irony as it related to the evil Decepticons and how they were very similar to the clever, crafty, deceptive and dangerous nature of the “Master of Deception” Satan himself.  I am certain that if you decide to see this movie, you will enjoy the rich imagery, action and life metaphors that can be extracted from the story.  As a matter of fact, I am going to go and see it again, by myself, just for life application sake.  Oh, did I mention that the nerdy kid ended up with the hot girl.
