Only in the darkness can you see the stars. ~MLK

Just imagine if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had Twitter or other social networking applications at his disposal, his message would have been even more world changing.  He was known as one of the best orators of his day and one of the top in the history of the country.  The exponential impact of his sound bites and oratory skills would have been extremely powerful with a tool like Twitter. I believe we take for granted the fact that our message, story, voice and thoughts can literally be globally shared at our leisure and by the push of a button.

This year in the United States we set aside Monday, January 18th. to honor the life of a civil rights leader, pastor and social justice martyr.  MLK positively impacted the US and the world in so many ways, I think it’s great the US has an official holiday in his honor. A few years ago, my wife and I were in Atlanta during the MLK Holiday. We visited the Atlanta Memorial and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church that Dr. King pastored. This summer we took our sons and visited the MLK  Memorial at the National Mall in Washington DC and stood at the very place he delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. This year I’m sharing 45 of Dr. King’s memorable quotes that could have easily been tweets. Not only are they tweetable (at 140 characters or less), they are all short enough to be retweetable (122 characters or less).  Quotes can have such power, as a matter of fact I used a number of Dr. King’s quotes to illustrate some power points in my book. 45 Retweetable #MLK Quotes

People are looking for particular attributes in leaders they want to work for. Leaders that possess these attributes generally have a positive, healthy work environment with minimal turnover.

McAlindon

I was a gardener providing water and other nourishment to our top 750 people. Of course, I had to pull out some weeds, too.” ~Jack Welch
  • 9. Good Listener – Be willing to listen; if you’re always talking, there is a good chance you are not listening — be willing to listen. || “To listen well, is as powerful a means of influence as to talk well, and is as essential to all true conversation” ~Chinese Proverb

Your Imaginary Limitations Are Inhibiting Your Success http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/2014/09/30/your-imaginary-limitations-are/ Tue, 30 Sep 2014 13:24:23 +0000 http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/?p=11909 mindYour mind is a powerful device, actually its the most powerful device on the planet. Your mind can allow you to create, dream and make amazing things happen. Your mind is also the place where most limitations begin and unfortunately end. “I Can’t” is the beginning of most of your limitations.

The reason you don’t succeed is because you tell yourself that you will not be successful. Your Imaginary Limitations Are Inhibiting Your Success. Stop being held back by your imaginary limitations.

Real limitations and challenges can be overcome, it’s the imaginary ones that are unbeatable.

What You Should Do When The People Around You Don’t Believe In You http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/2014/04/10/what-you-should-do-when-the-people-around-you-dont-believe-in-you/ http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/2014/04/10/what-you-should-do-when-the-people-around-you-dont-believe-in-you/#comments Thu, 10 Apr 2014 11:05:22 +0000 http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/?p=11705 believe2Belief in people is of paramount importance as it relates to the success that they will have. As a matter of fact, believing in others is the fuel that propels them down the road to success.

What should you do when those around you don’t believe in you?

You should find a different group of people to surround yourself with. If the people that don’t believe in you are friends and family, limit your interactions with them, tell them they’re wrong and more importantly believe n yourself and prove them wrong.

“Some are destined to succeed, some are determined to succeed.” ~H.H. Swami

You tend to become who those closest and most important to you think you will become. Choose those that are most important and closest to you wisely.

The Nontrepreneur http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/2014/03/19/the-nontrepreneur/ http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/2014/03/19/the-nontrepreneur/#comments Wed, 19 Mar 2014 12:07:25 +0000 http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/?p=11675 faith2There are so many entrepreneurs that never seem to get their entrepreneurial ship to set sail. They have the ideas, the vision, the story, the expertise, the ability… but they lack the faith to make it happen. Notice I didn’t say they lack the finances, the support or the opportunity. Entrepreneurs are individuals who take a series of faith steps to pursue what’s already inside of them.

Unfortunately, most people never realize their entrepreneurial dreams because they settle for being The Nontrepreneur. The Nontrepreneur has all the potential to be a successful entrepreneur but they settle for helping someone else achieve their goals  and dreams instead of pursuing their own.

To those that are stuck in chasm on Nontrepreneurism, allow that to be temporary and motivation for the entrepreneurial success that is to come. You have to chase after what is inside of you, otherwise what’s inside of you will slowly eat you up like the drippy faucet of regret. The late Steve Jobs says it this way:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~Steve Jobs

Remember, no successful entrepreneur ever jumped to the finish line of success, they all started their journey by planning, plotting and taking that single step of faith. Mr. and Mrs. Nontrepreneur it’s time that you get to stepping.
