Married, Alone & The Opposite Sex

opposite-sexToday’s question does not only apply to pastors or church staff; but rather to anyone who is married or single… in other-words everyone can chime in.

Should a married person be alone with someone of the opposite sex?  Should they travel, have lunch, 1:1 meetings, ride in the car…

At LifeChurch.tv we have a policy that a married person is not allowed to be alone, ride in the car with, go on a business trip with or have a secluded meeting alone with someone of the opposite sex.  If other people are in the area, you are OK… but not alone.  So here is the question one more time; everyone has an opinion, should churches or businesses have policies like this… join the discussion:

Hole In The Wall…

hole-in-the-wallWhat comes to mind when you hear the phrase Hole In The Wall…  I’m sure that we all have a relatively similar thoughts; however Hole In The Wall is defined as: A small, very modest, often out-of-the-way place.

In this post, I’m referring to Hole In The Wall Restaurants.  Yesterday, myself and a fairly large group of people had the opportunity to hit several Hole In The Wall restaurants for lunch.  First of all we hit Tim’s Indian Tacos and then our next stop was a little spot called Fried Pies… by the name I’m sure that you can imagine what the sell.

Maybe it’s just me, but I love finding these little hidden jewels we have come to know as Hole In The Wall’s; let me tell you, they have some of the best food.  When I travel I always try to find those Hole In The Wall’s that could literally be the billboard for Campbell’s Soup, if you know what I mean…  “M’m! M’m! Good!  Especially the little soul food restaurants like Florence’s on N.E. 23rd street in Oklahoma City, OK; or burger spots like Dairy Mart in Union City, OK…  I could go on and on with my list both locally and around the country, but that’s the purpose of this post; the purpose is for you to go on and on about your favorite Hole In The Wall’s

Do you like Hole In The Wall Restaurants?  If so, what are some of your favorites (Name, City, Type, Favorite Item…)?

BTW- I will be in Dallas for a couple of days next week for the Innovation 3 Conference; please share your favorite spots in Dallas.

Confessions Of A Pastor 2 (of 4)

THE ANNOINTING OIL

I remember this scenario as though it was yesterday; I had just began my journey into full-time vocational ministry at LifeChurch.tv.  I was the Associate Campus Pastor at the Edmond Campus and had been there for about 30 days.  I was Gung-Ho and ready to attack hell with a water pistol, if your know what I mean.  I remember a lady coming up after one of the experiences and needed prayer, so one of the other Associate Campus Pastors grabbed me, so that we could pray for her.

We proceeded to the staff offices to begin praying for healing for the right side of her body and for her Dr.’s appointment the following day.  I remember the other Associate Campus Pastor who will remain nameless; looked at me and then looked at a bottle of oil on the Campus Pastor’s desk.  I looked at him, with a look like “why ya lookin’ at me…” he proceeded to say go ahead Pastor Scott get the oil.  (Let’s Pause Right Here, I didn’t get a handbook with my calling to ministry… just a step of obedience and trusting God to use me in some way, and this was the first lesson in not knowing what I’m doing… Un-pause.)

This whole process of being the anointer with oil was new for me and I was going to have to just trust God to walk me through the process.  I grabbed the oil, opened the lid, shook a little on my finger… think think, I made a cross on her forehead (it seemed like the spiritual thing to do), anointed her in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and then we prayed for her.

I wasn’t quite sure if I did the right thing so I “Googled It” and Yes, I was right on the money. {smile}   Everything except for giving her a klennex, that was just a bonus and a courtesy. {smile}  I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength and discernment!  BTW- I have not seen any anointing oil at LifeChurch.tv since then!

Ever found yourself in one of those situations where you didn’t know what to do or say?  Thoughts?

I Like Women!

As many of you know; I’m all about the catchy blog titles and this just happens to be one of my personal favorites.  I know this blog title kinda states the obvious… I absolutely love one woman; that’s my wife.  I also like women who read my blog; as I seem to have a pretty genderly balanced (I’m not sure if genderly is a word) group of readers; although readership is balanced I am noticing more female commenter’s.

I would like for you to help me out by answering two simple questions:

  1. What is your gender?
  2. Do you think more males or females read BigIsTheNewSmall.com

Let’s get it started, I would like for all of the RSS readers to participate as well!
