Shift Happens

I know that many of you are expecting to have this glowing report about my experience from my sleep study; however shift happens. In other words I had to shift my plans.

I was in the office talking about my sleep study and one of our volunteers reminded me of how much money that I was going to have to pay out of pocket. The short and skinny is that the study would have cost me between $700 and $1000 dollars after my deductible and 20%.

I am now doing what they call a poor mans sleep study tonight. Its a simple device that connects to my finger and evaluates whether I am having episodes and the number of episodes. This information is downloaded and a report is sent back to my doctor. If I have a certain number of episodes then I will probably have to dish out the money for the study. Thanks for your comments, feedback and prayers yesterday.

Sorry for any typos I am sending this from my blackerry.

Have you had any recent shift happens moments, where you made adjustments midstream?

I Need A Fix!

I need a fix, that’s right I said I need a fix; and I am not talking about getting spayed or neutered.  I always thought it was interesting to hear inmates and drug addicts that I worked with in the the past, tell me that they did ______, because they needed a fix.  We all “Need A Fix,” and we all get our fix in different ways.  For some it’s alcohol, drugs, Starbucks, cigarettes, relationships…….  I need a fix daily and I want to share some of the ways that I get my fix:

  • Relationships- God, Wife, Kids, Family….
  • Energy Drinks-  Amp, 180, Vault
  • Reading- (3 B’s) Bible, Blogs, Books
  • Thinking- Praying, Writing, Strategizing,
  • My First Time- I like to tread new waters and blaze new trails!

How do you get your fix?  Share your thoughts!

BTW- I got a fix last night when I took my wife on a date.  We went to see Tyler Perry’s gospel stage play “What’s Done In The Dark” and afterwards we went to a local pancake house.  It was a great time!   Tyler Perry’s movie “Why Did I Get Married” comes out tomorrow, it looks like a good one.

The Dip

the-dip.JPGI really dig reading Seth Godin’s books.  It’s amazing how these short compilations provide for deep thinking.  Speaking of deep thinking my entire team is about to dive into his latest book “the dip.”  As a team we have read Small is The New Big, The Big Moo and now we are about to knock out “the dip.”  The Dip outlines the art of quitting, embracing challenges, being  #1 and how to ask those challenging questions while on your quest.  I highly recommend this book and you are sure to be able to knock it out in a couple of days.  I will let you know what my team thinks about it and if you have read it share your thoughts.
